The lake of Serre Ponçon and its dam.
The largest reservoir in France, supplied on the Hautes-Alpes side by the Durance, Alpes de Haute-Provence side by the Ubaye, with an area of 2800 hectares (the lake is as large as that of Annecy).
Lake Serre Ponçon is divided between two departments:
- The Hautes-Alpes, with its many facilities for navigation or swimming. For example in villages like Chorges, Savines-le-Lac, Embrun.
- The wilder Alps of Haute-Provence with its jagged and steep coast very similar to the coasts of Corsica, with the villages of Bréole at the entrance to the Ubaye Valley and Saint-Vincent les Forts with its equipped beach including the village dominates the lake from its 1280m altitude.
You can go around the lake through the towns of Espinasses, Serre-Ponçon dam, Chorges, Savines-Le-Lac, Le Sauze Du Lac.
Ecrins National Park
The park is located in the Hautes Alpes and Isère departments. First imagine a triangle with Gap to the south, Briançon to the northeast and Bourg d'Oisans to the northwest, and therefore inside the Ecrins National Park.

With a length of 314km, between Grenoble and Vallauris, it follows part of the route taken by Napoleon 1st on his return from Elba to reach the capital. It successively crosses 4 departments, first the Isère, then the Hautes Alpes, then the Alpes de Haute Provence and finally the Alpes Maritimes. Marked by eagles with outstretched wings, the Napoleon route, as far as the Hautes Alpes is concerned, passes among others through Le Poët, La Saulce, Tallard, Gap, St Bonnet en Champsaur, Le Noyer, Saint Firmin.

The young ladies wearing hairstyles
There are several sites in the Hautes Alpes where you can admire these fantasies of nature. Result of erosion, the Haired Ladies, are columns of friable stone of Jurassic origin supporting granite stones.
For example, the Pontis site on the road between Savines le Lac and Le Sauze du Lac and many others all around the Serre Ponçon lake.
But certainly the most remarkable, in Théus, the ballroom of the young ladies with hair, made up of a hundred columns. You can discover this site thanks to a small path which starts at the foot of the village.
