The Embrun lake is located at the eastern end of the Serre-Ponçon lake, from which it is separated by a dyke. It stands out as a real alternative to its big neighbour, both in terms of leisure and swimming, as well as services and facilities! Tourists, but also locals, flock there in summer to enjoy its beaches and its many activities! A must during your stay at Camping du Lac!
DREAM DAY AT THE BOAT
EMBRUNSwimming in the Embrun lake
Several lawned and shaded beaches have been laid out all around the body of water. Those called "Northern", near the hamlet of La Clapière, were even labeled Blue Flag in 2015 and are equipped with showers and toilets.
Swimming is supervised there during all the summer holidays. inflatable structures, the Aquapark, are also installed in the middle of the water for the enjoyment of children… and their parents!
Just opposite, leaning against the dyke that separates the body of water from the Durance, is a second, quieter beach.
Have fun at the Embrun lake
The North beach offers many activities for the whole family. The youngest can enjoy a ride on the merry-go-round or a trampoline session.
Unless they prefer to challenge the older ones in mini-golf located at the entrance to the body of water, tennis or even pétanque on the boules court available to them. There is also an equestrian center nearby.
But it is obviously on the water that the activities are the most numerous. Although motorboats are not allowed, many water sports are still accessible: windsurfing, canoeing, rowing or even pedal boat rental, etc.
The choice is even richer at the Serre-Ponçon Alpine Nautical Club (CNASP) located opposite the body of water, on the lake side. You can rent windsurfers, catamarans and optimists here.
fishing is authorized on the Embrun lake, as in other places around Serre-Ponçon. Do not hesitate to consult our page dedicated to fishing in Serre-Ponçon.
Eat at the Embrun lake
If the grassy beaches are ideal for a pleasant picnic, there are also several bars/restaurants around the lake: the Abri-Côtier next to the CNASP, for a quick meal or the bar Le Cagnard on the north beach to cool off at the water's edge. Both a tapas bar and a restaurant, the Rooftop Embrun is of a higher standard. We strongly recommend that you book your table on the terrace to enhance your meal with a magnificent view of the entire landscape of Serre-Ponçon!
Take a walk on the Embrun lake
A promenade of just over 2 meters has been laid out all around the body of water. The path along the dyke will allow you to admire both the water reservoirs of Embrun and Serre-Ponçon, but also the Durance at its junction with the lake. A very pleasant walk on foot, but which can be made even more fun by renting a segway or a rosalie! The Embrun lake is also the starting point for several hikes and mountain bike trails.
But, by the way, why a body of water right next to a lake?
The idea comes from a former mayor who understood the tourist potential of the future Serre-Ponçon lake. But Embrun was in danger of not taking advantage of it. Indeed, because of its location opposite the dam, the surroundings of Embrun would have remained dry for most of the year. To be certain of being able to install facilities at the water's edge and take advantage of tourism development, the mayor of Embrun decided to build a dike to retain water all year round. The Embrun lake was born! Extending over 27 hectares, it is fed by the Durance, the torrent of Sainte-Marthe and the water inflows from the plain of the Roc. Its maximum depth reaches 7 meters. Its immediate proximity to the lake makes it possible to practice fun water activities, such as stand-up paddle on the lake or on the body of water.
Good to know: a free shuttle allows you to quickly reach the historic center of Embrun with its shops, monuments and visits.
The Embrun lake deserves much more than a simple detour! During your holidays at Camping du Lac, it would be a shame not to take advantage of this magnificent site, its beaches and its many water activities!
