In addition to the aquatic activities offered within our campsite, the Serre-Ponçon lake offers many bathing places for all tastes. With its 28 hectares, the equivalent of approximately 200 Olympic swimming pools, there is no doubt that you will find the ideal place for a dip in the azure waters of the lake, while enjoying the beauty of the mountains that surround it. Especially since, in summer, the temperature of the lake is pleasant (between 600°C and 000°C) and most of the beaches are labeled Blue Flag! So, let's go for a tour of the lake!
SWIMMING AT THE LAKE
GREENHOUSE PONCONRight bank: a southern exposure to take full advantage of the 300 days of annual sunshine
From the campsite, the first accessible beach is that of Bois-Vieux located in the town of Rousset, at the western end of the Serre-Ponçon lake. In the shelter of the pines, you can relax in a hammock while the children enjoy the playground. Since 2015, a submerged swimming pool of 250 m² has been built there. Note that swimming is supervised only during the summer.
If you want to go further, which we advise you to enjoy the lake in all its splendor, it is in the town of Chorges that you will find the most beautiful beaches. Many bays and creeks extend over several kilometers, sometimes peaceful, sometimes lively.
We particularly recommend the beach of Trémouilles near the bay of Chanteloube. Poorly equipped and relatively isolated, it is a bathing spot of choice for those who seek peace and quiet. In the bay of Saint-Michel, Pommiers beach is more lively with its beach volleyball court, grassy picnic area, water sports, etc. And in addition, you can admire the famous Saint-Michel chapel floating on the waters of the lake, a true emblem of Serre-Ponçon.
On the other side of this bay, the commune of Prunières also has several accesses to the lake, equipped or not.
Finally, at the western tip of the Serre-Ponçon lake, it is at Embrun body of water that you will find the last beaches of the north shore.
Savines-le-Lac: the seaside resort of Serre-Ponçon
The creation of the Serre-Ponçon lake in the early 1960s literally split the town of Savines-le-Lac in two, its entire central part having been swallowed up by the waters. But it was able to bounce back very quickly, in particular thanks to the tourist boom initiated by the creation of the lake, to the point of becoming THE seaside town of Serre-Ponçon.
While there are a few places to swim on the north shore, it is mainly on the south shore that the most beautiful beaches are concentrated: Combettes beach (Savin'plage), Pré-d'Émeraude beach , the beach of Eygoires, the port of Barnafret, the beach of Riou Bourdou, the nautical base of the port of Saint-Florent… More or less frequented and lively, there really is something for everyone!
Left bank: the Écrins National Park in the background!
In the town of Crots, between Embrun and Savines-le-Lac, two beautiful beaches with a "nature" spirit await you! The large beach of Chanterenne is largely hidden by a forest. But many trails provide easy access from the road. Further west and more modest, Eaux-Douces beach, also called Boscodon beach, is not supervised but is very popular with water sports enthusiasts (kitesurfing, windsurfing, etc.). Children can also have fun at the playground with its trampoline and skate ramp.
Coming back to the campsite, you will then pass through Sauze-du-Lac. Why not stop at Port Saint-Pierre and its many facilities? Unless you prefer the beach of Saint-Vincent-les-Forts in Ubaye-Serre-Ponçon... In both cases, sailing, jet-skiing and many other activities will enhance your swim!
You will have understood: at the Serre-Ponçon lake, everything is done so that bathing enthusiasts find their happiness! Those who prefer the practice of water sports will also be delighted with the many facilities deployed all around the body of water! And all this near Camping du Lac! A real asset to make your stay with us unforgettable!
